Ingredients & Inspiration

Jam is undoubtedly one of the tastiest food staples to keep in the fridge: slather it on toast, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal and the classic PB & J sandwich. It’s definitely one of my favourite sweet treats, but I just wish there was less sugar in store bought jam! Store bought jams are unfortunately laden with sugar; in fact, it’s usually the first ingredient listed in most cases.

Fear not though, as Chia Jam has come to the rescue! With the only ingredients being fresh or frozen fruit (berries are the best, in my opinion), chia seeds, lemon juice and maple syrup, you’ll have nothing suspicious to worry about in this jam.

HOW TO MAKE CHIA JAM

Heat, stir, cool is literally all it takes to make a quick batch of Chia Jam. In just under 20 minutes you’ll have a fresh batch of homemade fruity jam that pairs perfectly with all your breakfast besties!

  1. Add fresh or frozen berries (or any other chopped fruit) to a small pot and heat through until bubbling and liquidy, about 12 minutes.
  2. Add lemon juice and maple syrup to taste plus a small pinch of salt and heat through a few minutes further.
  3. Remove from the heat and stir in the chia seeds until well combined and no clumps of seeds are stuck together.
  4. Let cool and transfer to a jar, then store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Hot tip: I love to use my berry chia jams warm straight from the pot over pancakes and waffles!

Berry Bliss

I promise once you try making homemade Chia Jam for yourself you will never go back to store bought! I haven’t bought jam in years and plan on keeping it that way! No only is it healthier for you but easier on the wallet, too!
