Cook Time 15 minutes
Servings: 3 cups approx.
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: Canadian

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen berries
  • 2 to 4 tbsp maple syrup (depending on your preferred sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp whole chia seeds

Equipment

  • 1 small pot

Method

  1. To a small pot add the berries, cover and heat over medium-high heat until bubbling and liquidy, about 12 minutes.
  2. Once the berries have melted (if frozen), add the lemon juice and maple syrup plus a small pinch of salt, stir and continue cooking uncovered another 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the chia seeds until they're well combined with no clumps. Let sit for about 12 to 15 minutes to allow the chia seeds to absorb the liquid. Once thickened and cooled, transfer to a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Enjoy on toast, pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, or oatmeal!
